Maker Spotlight – Get To Know The Face Behind The Brand.
Meet Jen from Rays of Sunshine. Jen resides in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia and started making beaded jewelry at age 14 but discovered polymer clay in 2019. She is predominantly inspired by nature, the earth, sun, sky, moon and her local area – the coastline, ocean and beaches. She also derives great inspiration from historical design and decor, places, paintings, photography and textiles, with her wardrobe and fabrics being the driving force behind many of her creations – She loves to match! Jen has always been a creative soul, starting art classes at the age of 10 led her to her greatest passion – painting. She is obsessed with anything crafty or creative from screen printing to macrame to photography so her greatest struggle is not having time for every art project she is itching to start! Since she started focusing on earring making she has missed her other creative loves so she has been experimenting with mixing her passions together and adding paint to her earring collections. When she is creating she loves to binge her favorite reality tv shows.
Rays of Sunshine specializes in polymer clay earrings that are literal rays of sunshine on your ears. Her designs are colorful and joyful and she offers a style for every earring wearer from studs to dangles. She is such a positive light and her reels reflect that. Jen happily accepts custom orders and her website is located in her IG bio.
Here are some words from Jen:
-What made you want to start creating?-
“I took a local class in polymer clay and fell in love with the texture, feel and versatility of clay. The medium is so relaxing to work with, I find it a meditative experience!”
-Would you like to share any family info? Pets?-
“My 10 year old King Charles Cavalier Tess is my little maker sidekick. She sits at my feet while I create and is my little Sunshine ambassador and giver of smooches!”
-What is your MOST FAVORITE item you have created?-
“My cascade chandelier style earrings are my absolute favourite to make and wear!”
-What makes your shop unique? What is your specialty?-
“My styles are so varied, there is truly something for everyone from minimal, classic to bold bespoke beauties! I specialise in oceanic and pieces inspired by my coastal hometown, multilayered cascading chandelier dangles and also custom creations, I love being able to bring someone’s dream style to life.”
-What is the story behind your business name?-
“My Pa is the inspiration behind the name Rays of Sunshine. His name was Raymond and he was pure sunshine. He was a brilliant artist working with oil paints and charcoal and he inspired my creative journey immensely. My Pa always looked on the bright side of life and took as many opportunities as humanly possible to make others laugh and smile. He had the most wonderful sense of humour, was kind to everyone he met and I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t have a warm memory of him. He is the inspiration behind not only the name, but also the kind of human being I strive to be.”
